About Quest
Quest Equine Welfare Inc. is a small not for profit charity making a meaningful difference in the lives of neglected and at-risk equines through direct intervention, education, community outreach, the raising of awareness, and through hands-on horse rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing.
Quest provides assistance to equines and their owners via a multitude of means. The most time and resource intensive aspect of Quest's work however, is the 'hands on' care and rehabilitation of surrendered horses, ponies and donkeys. All facilities, expertise, and care is provided entirely by Quest committee members, all of whom are deeply committed to working to achieve the best possible long term outcome for every equine surrendered into Quest care.
Equines surrendered to Quest and/or rehabilitating are not placed into foster/volunteer homes for the period of their recuperation. All Quest equines are housed and cared for in one of two Quest specific care facilities, and are attended to by Quest personnel, along with Quest's allied health professionals. During their stay with us, horses in care truly become a part of the 'Quest family', and we hope that each of them feels the security of 'belonging' while they are with us, so important.
We would like to share just some of our photos of some of the people involved in our work.
Inevitably, most of them are pictured with a horse!
QUEST PEOPLE
Owner responsibility is at the core of all of Quest's projects and services offered, this includes being available to owners who are struggling to maintain adequate care of their equines. We are happy to offer suggestions, referrals, advice, and practical assistance where appropriate, to anyone finding themselves in this position, and do so in a supportive and non - judgmental manner. Please do ask for help if you need it.
Another of Quest's priorities is to work towards addressing the issues that lead to the neglect, abandonment, maltreatment, and excess of unwanted horses/ponies/donkeys. There is a chronic over-supply of horses in this country, and this state of affairs is a major contributor to most equine welfare issues we face. Quest feels an obligatory responsibility, as an equine welfare organisation, to highlight the root causes of this oversupply of animals, and to engage the horse owning community as a whole to become more accountable and proactive in looking at ways to address this compelling problem.
Quest is an open organisation, and encourages involvement from any interested individuals, professionals and/or organisations. We love to hear from anyone who feels that they may have something to offer Quest's work, whether it be skills, advice, or simply to let us know of their concerns in this area.
Much has been learned over past years, and we are constantly reviewing and re-assessing our work, outcomes, and the general welfare climate. As a result, the organisation continually evolves to try to meet perceived needs, within the prevailing funding limitations at any given time.
Quest relies entirely upon donations and also the time, expertise, and facilities of committee members, to enable the provision of housing, transport, veterinary care, farrier services, regular dental services, chiropractic and holistic therapies, feeding, rugging, supplements, nutrition, and all other provisions which are assessed as being beneficial for the horse in achieving the best possible outcome for his/her health. Donations are crucial to Quest's sustainability, and are sincerely appreciated. All donations over $2 are fully tax deductible.
Quest accommodates surrendered equines at two privately owned properties in north/central Victoria. Each of these care environments provides a different scenario of care. Quest's President's small property is set up to cater for more intensive care, and the Quest Sanctuary, (which is a committee member's operating farm), provides excellent turn-out facilities.
