What a lovely big fella Chance is, he really is quite striking. We are told that Chance is 8 yrs old, but we will confirm that when we get some history on him and the dentist has been. Chance was bought four years ago by his surrendering owner out of a truck-load of horses who were bound for the knackery. Unfortunately his surrendering owner's circumstances have changed, and due to family illness, she has been unable to care for him of late. We would like to thank Chance's owner for re-assessing her capacity to care for Chance adequately, and for acting upon the referral she was given by the RSPCA.
If you would like to support Quest in caring for Chance throughout his rehabilitation, please visit the Horse Sponsorship page for details.

A visit today from Quest friend, Janis Hobbs ~ Equine Touch instructor and practitioner. Chance thoroughly enjoyed his bodywork, thank you Janis! The Equine Touchâ„¢ is hands-on soft-tissue bodywork for horses with a holistic approach. You can learn more about The Equine Touch here.

Dental exam for Chance today, and he passed with flying colours. Chance's teeth have been done not so long ago, and a good job has been done.
We have traced Chance's brands and found his identity in the Studbook, which tells us that he is actually 6 years old, not 8. His sire is 'Pacific Fella' USA, and his dam is 'Pocket Time' NZ.
He is proving to be a lovely natured boy, and a pleasure to have around. He has the most incredible trot, which I will have to take a clip of and share. He is going to make one outstanding riding horse in the future :)

Well what an absolutely charming boy this is upon getting to know him. He is the gentlest giant imaginable, and really enjoys human company so much. He follows at my shoulder when I did 'poo pick-up' in his paddock, and when he thinks that I have gone too long without acknowledging him and giving him a sook, he gently tries to remove the rake from my hands by taking the handle in his mouth :)
Chance has the most incredible movement, which has to be seen to be believed. I must capture it on video to share. He is most definitely a trotter, not a pacer. He is going to make an outstanding riding horse and friend to someone when the time comes, and would really suit someone who enjoys having a real relationship with their horse.
Once Chance is in a good physical condition we will probably send him away to have him started under saddle. We will assess just how much he knows first however, and possibly do it ourselves, as I don't think that beginning his riding career with be a drama for him at all. He is always very keen to please, is a quick learner, and is very 'non-spooky'. A lovely intelligent, beautiful natured, and very sound horse who has a great future ahead of him.

Great news for Chance, (and Mickey). Chance has now been re-homed with a wonderful family, along with his mate, Mickey!
We are all so excited for Mickey and Chance. Their new adoptive owners are experienced horse people, and are keen to spend a lot of time with them both, continuing to work with Mickey to re-establish his trust and confidence, and, depending upon his progress, eventually have him started under saddle. Chance had not been made available for adoption as yet, but as is often the case, the right people and opportunity came along at the right time for him. Chance's new family are keen to continue Chance's rehabilitation, while building their relationship with him as his 'new mums'. Chance will also be started under saddle when the time comes.
THANK YOU so much to Che, Mandy, and family for making this new start possible for these special boys. The offers of good permanent adoptive homes are critical to Quest's capacity to continue to accept equines into care. Without the homes for these horses to ultimately go to, we simply could not take them in for care at all. We sincerely appreciate our adoptive families for the important role they play in opening their hearts and homes to these horses, and the huge commitment they make to their futures.
Mickey and Chance leave Quest for their new home:

What amazing progress! I have to admit, it's hard to beat the willing and sensible natures of these Standardbreds, they really are something special, particularly this beautiful boy. That's not to take away at all though from the incredible patience, understanding, and good work happening on the part of Chance's new mum, Che. Congrats to you both!

THANK YOU so much to Mickey and Chance's mums for forwarding us this lovely update pic :) We're sure that all who have followed Chance's progress will be SO pleased to see him looking so well, and I think... very content :)
Our adoptive homes are very special to us indeed, as what each of them do in making a life-time commitment to these special horses is integral to our capacity to continue to accept other horses who are in need of care.
Our sincere gratitude, in this case, to Mandy and Che for opening their hearts and home to these two special Quest graduates, Mickey and Chance, and for staying in touch with news of the boys.
