We have been told that Cloudy is approximately 20 years old, which will be confirmed when Cloudy sees our Dentist. Cloudy did race in his youth and has been retired for some time. His surrendering owner explained that she has been caring for Cloudy on behalf of one of the owners from the syndicate who owned Cloudy in his racing days. Unfortunately Cloudy's carer has had some serious family issues arise which have prevented her from physically caring for him any longer. Cloudy arrived yesterday with his long-time paddock mate, Chance.
Cloudy has a lovely kind eye and seems extremely quiet and sensible. His surrendering carer mentioned that "nothing phases him at all". He seems a very sweet gent, and I'm sure will regain his condition and health easily.
We would like to thank Cloudy's carer for re-assessing her capacity to care for the boy, and for acting upon the referral she was given by the RSPCA.
If you would like to support Quest in caring for Cloudy throughout his rehabilitation, please visit the Horse Sponsorship page for details.

A visit today from Quest friend, Janis Hobbs ~ Equine Touch instructor and practitioner. Cloudy thoroughly enjoyed his bodywork, thank you Janis! The Equine Touchâ„¢ is hands-on soft-tissue bodywork for horses with a holistic approach. You can learn more about The Equine Touch here.

Dental exam for Cloudy today, and he passed with flying colours. Our Dentist commented that Cloudy's teeth are in exceptionally good condition for a horse of his age, and that they have been well maintained throughout his life.
We have traced Cloudy's brand and found his details in the Studbook. He was foaled 1.09.90. Cloudy is showing himself to be a very sociable and friendly boy. A true gentleman, very well mannered and obliging.

It has been wonderful to hear from Cloudys original owners, who were put in touch with us by his surrendering carer, and even better to have a visit from them! A wonderful family, who after Cloudy retired from racing, have made sure that he has been well cared for. The family do not have their own property so it hasn't always been easy ensuring Cloudy's care, but our hats off to them for doing their utmost to provide their ex-racehorse with a comfortable retirement for the remainder of his days. A VERY unusual occurrence unfortunately.
It was great to learn about Cloudy's history and his racing days. His original owners have been kind enough to share some of their memorabilia with us too. Here is a clip of our Cloudy 17 years ago, winning a race at Harold Park. Great win Cloudy! (His name is 'Money Cloud' in the call of the race).

What a pleasure to have around Cloudy is. Nothing's a problem for Clouds, and he seems happily settled into his routine. He is a Pacer through and through, sometimes even pacing at a walk. We are really hoping for a fabulous permanent companion home for Cloudy, and that he will find a family to call his own with whom he can live out his days.
Cloudy is exceptionaly sound, with great teeth, great feet, and the health of a boy half his age. He is easy to do everything with, and is very 'human friendly'. Cloudy is not quite ready to leave as yet, but please have a think about whether you may have a nice paddock for Clouds, and be able to offer this lovely gent the retirement he deserves.
Offers of permanent homes are crucial to the success of our program. Without such offers Quest would be unable to continue to accept new horses into care. It is a big commitment, to guarantee a horse retirement home for life, and we have been very lucky to date with placing such horses in wonderful homes. We really hope that Cloudy will win a heart out there and be lucky enough to be welcomed into someones 'horsey family'. If you have ever wanted to do anything towards the horse welfare cause, please consider becoming an 'adoptee', give a horse a safe and happy retirement, and by doing so...help us to demonstrate that there are options within the equine community for such horses, other than the knackery.
Quest will always accept horses back into care should an adoptee's circumstances change and they are no longer in a position to be able to care for their Quest horse. Horses homed as 'retirees' are not to be sold on or given away by adoptive homes to a third party.

Bit of a bath and a spruce up for Cloudy today.

Big day for Cloudy today! He has left for his new home, and we're VERY happy for him. Cloudy was lucky enough to be offered a life-time home by Quest supporters Michelle and Simon. We know he'll be well loved and cared for by his new mum and dad, and we are very grateful to them.
It is a huge committment to make, to take in a horse for the term of his natural life, and guarantee him the best of care. Cloudy is an aged Pacer, and not broken to saddle, so all the harder to find a willing and appropriate home. Michelle and Simon are very happy to welcome him into their family however, and we commend them for it.
Thanks guys, without people like you, we couldn't offer such horses a second chance. We look forward to hearing news of the special boy.
Cloudy arrives at his new home.

By far the happiest aspect of our work is that of hearing news from adoptive homes re their Quest horse/pony. Here are some lovely photos from Cloudy's adoptive mum of her special boy and Michelle's neice Mia :) Thanks so much for sharing Michelle!
