Dinki
Dinki
Welcome to lovely Dinki!
Dinki's issues are the condition of her hooves, lice, parasites, and general poor health. Dinki arrived along with her paddock buddy Billy, who has a whole set of problems of his own. You can meet Billy here.
Billy and Dinki are currently inseparable, and are being housed together as they draw a lot of comfort and security from each other. Dinki's rather unusually shaped rump is due to fat deposits which were laid down at some time in the past when she has been allowed to become grossly overweight, as is the crest she has along her neck. In all probability these fat deposits will now be a permanent fixture, no matter what her body condition. Dinki is broken to saddle.
Dinki's colour is chestnut, or red roan with dappling. In Donkeys the dapples are called 'reverse' or 'nursery dapples'. Think of a rocking horse who has his dapples painted on darker than the body - that's Donkey dapples. In a horse the dapples get lighter and get bigger until they may disappear into an all grey coat. In Donkeys, the areas surrounding the dapple gets lighter with roaning. The dapples seem to last, whereas horse dapples grey out.
Dinki has been scouring severely since arrival, (as has Billy). I think I can safely say that I have already found Dinki to be the most affectionate equine that I have had here through the care facility, including my own horse..lol. She just craves human company, and in her quiet and gentle way will take every opportunity available to softly sidle up beside you for a cuddle.

D Day for Dinki! She was absolutely perfectly behaved, and her bestest buddy Billy held her hand throughout.
Farrier also today for little Dinki. She was like an encyclopedia of hoof ailments! She has thrush, seedy toe, and an abssess, aside from her obvious problems. She behaved impeccably for what was a long time Jude needed to spend on her feet.

Well little Dinki has been fortunate enough to be paid a visit by 'Equine Touch' lady, Janis Hobbs. I'm not sure whether she enjoyed the 'tummy cuddles', or the therapy the most, but either way she was a happy little Donkey!

Jude cut away the hoof wall today that was no longer attached due to Dinki's seedy toe.

Dinki's doing well. It's going to be some time before her hooves are returned to a healthy state, but that's just a matter of frequent trims and time. My daughter Elise is absolutely smitten with Dinki, and I think the feeling is pretty mutual. She is just a priceless sweet girl, so steady and trustworthy. Elise has never been overly confident, but is just fine with Dinki. I cannot recommend a 'Dinki' enough, as every girl's first pony/equine!
Dinks may not be the 'prettiest' thing on four legs, but as far as we're concerned, she is just beautiful...her wonderful nature just makes her that way :)
