Each day in this country there are equines that are experiencing an unacceptable level of suffering. Their suffering may have many causes; some are the subject of owner neglect, others have health reasons that are out of the scope of their owner's ability to provide treatment, while some owners may be struggling to care for their horse/pony due to their own poor health or current financial situation.

Quest Equine Welfare Inc. aims to advocate for, and assist equines that are facing dire or terminal circumstances. We firstly assess the situation and needs of the individual animal and base our intervention on what is in the best interests of the horse/pony/donkey.

Sometimes the horse/pony/donkey will be surrendered into the care of Quest, where it will undergo intensive rehabilitation. Many of the horses that enter the care of Quest have complex co-existing problems; many are undernourished and/or have severely neglected feet and teeth which require intense and ongoing management by carers and allied equine professionals. Others may have specific health problems arising from infection, congenital malformation or acute conditions, all of which are treated accordingly.

Most often, the dietary needs of these horses require expert management and supplementation with additional nutrients for an extended period of time.

The cost of each horse's rehabilitation varies, and is dependent upon their individual health problems, but suffice to say, the costs of caring for some animals can be very high. We are happy to provide rehabilitation to each animal based upon their likely or foreseeable health outcomes rather than the costs involved.

*Please note: Horses surrendered to Quest and/or rehabilitating are not placed into foster/volunteer homes for the period of their recuperation. All Quest equines are housed and cared for by Quest, and are attended to by Quest personnel, along with Quest's allied health professionals.
